How many votes do you get in the SV system of Voting?
2 votes.
1 for 1st placed candidate.
1 for 2nd favoured candidate.
For a candidate to win out right, what vote share must they achieve?
50% of the votes.
If there is no out right winner, what occurs to achieve a winner?
The 2nd preference votes are reallocated and candidate with highest total is elected.
What type of system is the SV system?
A majoritarian system.
Can a party put forward more than one candidate?
No they can’t, 1 candidate per party.
Is there less waster votes?
Yes 100%, a voter if they don’t get there first choice candidate are most likely to achieve their second preference.
Is the system really more proportional than FPTP?
Not really, small parties are still kept out but even worse coalitions can be former more commonly.
