Q

Why was the music performed the way it was?

A

Broska wanted to reflect both the stillness of the monks and their strong physicality. Similarly, Larbi, inspired by Tanztheatre and the abstract and multidisciplinary approach of modern dance, wanted the movement to be the primary focus of the work.

In Post-modern dance, who influenced Larbi and how?

A
  1. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker; developed highly pedestrianised and repetitive movements, and work without narrative, that were timed through pattern and accumulation
  2. Pina Bausch + Tanztheatre; elaborate sets where performers spoke and performed repetitive yet symbolic gestures. Bausch blurred the boundaries between dance and theatre in order to provoke the audiences emotions
  3. works increasingly multi-disciplinary + abstract in aesthetic with pure movement being the primary focus
