What is MEES
Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards 2015
minimum EPC of E from 1 April 2023
MEES exmptions
Doesnt need an EPC - place of worship, listed building
Industrial units or workshops that do not have heating/cooling
Tenancy less than 6 months
tenancy more than 99 years
when it can be proven that improvements will devalue property by more than 5%
What are the MEES non compliance penalties
Policed by local authority
Less than 3 months = up to £5,000 or 10% RV (which ever is greater) max £50,000
More than 3 months = up to £10,000 or 20% RV (which ever is greater) max£150,000
