O2- 92-100%
Respiratory Rate: 12-18
Temperature: 97.8-99.1F
MHT complications
MHT intervention
Causes increased demand for O2 due to muscle rigidity, insert foley catheter, apply external and internal cooling
How to treat MHT
Dantrolene and Sterline water (diluent)
Sometimes shivering is normal, give Demerol
MHT signs and symptoms
Early S/S: muscle rigidity, dark colored urine/myoglobinuria, fever, tachycardia, PVC
Late S/S: mottled skin, progressing to cyanosis, soaring fever, metabolic and respiratory acidosis, renal failure
What are SCD’s and how to explain to your patient
Inflatable sleeves that fir around your legs. The sleeves are attached to a pump that inflates and deflates the sleeves. The pumping action acts like your muscles to help blood flow and prevent clots.
Preparing your patient for surgery
Lab levels of H&H, K, Na, and glucose levels
Hemoglobin: 12-18g/dL
Hematocrit: 37-50%
K levels: 3.5-5
Na:135-145
Gluscose: Fasting 70-100
