What are the signs and symptoms?
Intermittent claudication, hair loss, thickened toenails, muscle atrophy, pain/numbness at rest, ABI score, Dependent rubor (alleviate with leg dangling), cold, dark (symptoms of arterial insufficiency)
PAD
arterial, leg pain when walking, coldness on lower leg, change in color of legs, sores that won’t heal, shiny/smooth
Dangle feet down
Do’s and dont’s when you have this disease?
PVD
Venous, lower leg edema, sores with irregular borders, yellow slough of ruddy skin
Alleviate through elevation of legs, decreases swelling and helps with blood flow
Pulses you check with these issues
check pulses below the hip (posterior and tibial), check capillary refills of each toe
How do you live with PAD
Exersing, positing (letting feet dangle), promote vasodilation (warming u7p leg, wear socks), end-vascular intervention, arterial revascularization
6 P’s
Pain
Pallor
Pulselessness
Paresthesia
Paralysis
Poikilothermic (coolness)
PAD Medication
Warren/Coumadin, heparin
