Effective treatment of Migraines
Abortive/preventative the4rapy (NSAIDS, acetaminophen), take contraception, caffeine can narrow blood vessels and increase inflammation
Migraine Management
Yoga, medication, exercise, biofeedback, vitamin B12, acupuncture, and chiropractor
S/S migraines
N/V, photophobia, phonophobia
What foods should you eat or not eat?
Triggers: alcohol, aged cheeses, food with tyramine, caffeine, chocolate, MSG, nitrates (meats), pickled and fermented food, nuts, artificial sweeteners, smoked fish
Helps: Leafy greens, Hydration
Sumatriptan for treatment
-Take as soon as symptoms begin
-Potential side effect is rebound headache
-Activates serotonin receptors
-Contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular diseases
-Take BC
-No SSRI or ST. John’s wart
-S/S is chest pain, flushing, tingling, and hot sensation

Keep a journal of foods (MSG, nitrates, alcohol, artificial sweetener), activity, environmental
