What do you do in a ballot box
Two columns one for the first preference candidate and one for the second preference candidate , you put a cross next to your first choice candidate in the first column and a cross in the second column for your second preference
How many representatives do you get if this system was used in a general election
You get one mp for each of the 650 constituencies
How does this system convert votes into seats / how are the representatives chosen
Candidate must achieve more than 50% of the vote /3rd largest
What type of system is this
Majority system
If 50% is not achieved in the first round how does it ensure the winning candidate achieves 50% in the second round
The top two candidates go through to the second round all others are eliminated. Second preference votes for al those who votes for an eliminated candidate are then added to the two remaining candidates. Candidate with the most votes win

Strong one party
Does this system encourage tatical voting and safe seats
Yes but more conciliatory campaigning for second preference
