As a planner hat
Develop expertise in planning activities. Be capable of inspecting work systems, conducting studies, analyzing data. Develop recommendations for changes. Anticipate problems and make decisions to avoid such problems.
As a personnel officer hat
Assign and deploy officers scientifically in positions where they are best suited and most needed. Analyze needs and fill accordingly. Keep subordinates happy with assignments.
As a trainer hat
Develop ability to train employees to be efficient, effective producers.
As a controller hat
Know how to control subordinates and follow through to determine that subordinates comply with regulations and orders. Disciplinary action is taken through positive and negative actions. Remember, nobody is perfect.
As a motivator of employees hat
Must motivate people to have job satisfaction and high production. Common motivators are Fear, Inspiration, and Incentive. Inspiration is by far the best motivator.
As a responsible leader hat
You must provide strong leadership. Be reasonably intelligent, good common sense, persuasive, and flexible. Allow subordinates to grow within themselves. Stand behind your subordinates.
Technical Skills
Investigative techniques, report writing, patrol,and traffic activities. The “how to” part of enforcement activities and functions.
Managerial Skills
Increase or maintain the productivity of subordinates. Getting the job done through the efforts of others rather than doing it yourself.
Human Skills
The supervisors ability to work effectively as a member of a team of which he/she is the leader - working with people.
