- ~20% have underling DVT
- inflammed vien >5 cm = increased risk of DVT

ultrasound scan
to exclude concurrent DVT

what is the 1st line management for superficial thrombophlebitis?
A
- anti-embolism stockings
- LMWH for 30 days
or - fondaparinux for 45 days

what drug is used if LMWH is contraindicated in superficial thrombophlebitis?
A
oral NSAIDs for 8-12 days
