thrush:
white, curd-like plaques on oral mucosa and tongue. nystatin is treatment.
tinea versicolor:
hypo or hyper pigmented patches. covered in fine powdery slcaes. caused by malassezia and requires fat to grow. shows in woods light.
RESISTANT TO GRISEOVULVIN.
tx: selenium sulfide or other antifungals
TINEAS:
tinea capitis: hair loss on scalp, treat with griseofulvin
tinea pedis: cracking, maceration and itching on foot. treatment is topical antifungals.
Herpes simplex
HSV 1 and 2. Primary lesion is a vesicle. often found in small clusters. viscose rupture and form a secondary plaque. treatment is recurrent. primary lesion is painful. lasts around 1 week.
tx: oral antivirlas
herpes zoster
pain and parasthesia lasting 48 hours. vesicular eruption in a unilateral dermatomal pattern. duration is 2-3 weeks. MEDICAL EMERGENCY IF THIS IS ON THE EYE (look for Hutchinson’s sign, a strong predictor it will effect eye)
tx: pain management, antivirals
Urticaria:
erythematous macules and weals on the skin.
due to release of histamine from mast cells leads to tissue swelling.
acute - less than 6 weeks–> foods bugs drugs
chronic –> longer than 6 weeks may be due to autoimmune condition
tx: oral antihistamines, if severe then maybe coriticosteroid.
