Atopic Dermatitis:
-chronic, pruritic eczematous disease that begins in childhood and follows a remitting/flaring course throughout life.
-itch that rashes
-associated with asthma and allergies
-common for family history
-found on FLEXOR SURFACES
LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS:
-limit bathing, avoid harsh soaps, avoid perfumed products, avoid scratching
TREATMENT:
- immunomodulators
- topical steroids
- oral cortiocsteroids
- PUVA
Contact Dermatitis
- irritant dermatitis, most common cause of dermatitis. due to exposure of outside agent or process that compromises the epidermis.
- Allergic Dermatitis, inflammatory reaction that follows absorption of an antigen applied to the skin. Typically acute, well defined, vesicles. INTENSILY PRURITIC.
TX: topical corticosteroid.
Pityriasis Rosea:
common, benign skin eruption. -self limited -10-35 years old light pink tan macule RING. -HERALD PATCH, before the appearance of multiple lesions. -Typically asymptomatic, mild itching. CHRISTMAS TREE PATTERN!
Psoriasis:
EXTENSOR SURFACES - erythematous plaques, some with silver scale -typically found on joints -spares the face -pitting nails -obesity makes it worse -genetic factors Tx: topical steroids, PUVA
** gutatte psoriasis follows a strep infection
give strep medicine
neonatal vs infantile acne…which one do you treat?
treat infantile with topical agetns like bezoyl peroxide. neonatal acne goes away in 4-6 months with no treatment.
vitiligo:
autoimmune disease in which pigment cells are destroyed resulting in irregularly shaped white patches on the skin. most pigment loss if before age 20. treatment has unsatisfactory results.
