Epidermal cyst:
also called follicular or sebaceous cyst.
- dermal tumor containing sebum and keratin debris derived from the lining of the hair follicle.
-anywhere on skin
-foul odor
-tx: I &D, remove the PUNCTUM. or surgical excise.
These can grow back if punctum isn’t removed.
Lipomas:
tumor composed of mature adipose cells. Can happen in a patient who gains or loses a lot of weight.
tx: excise.
MULTIPLE lipomas is associated with Gardner’s Syndrome (a type of lynch)
Dermatofibroma:
usually on the leg, generally firm and <1cm. It is a scar reaction to trauma. Excise or biopsy.
Pyogenic granuloma:
benign tumor.
composed of highly vascular granulation, and is red or purple in color.
Gets a collar scale, fast growing and bleeds very easily.
tx: shave excision and electrodessication
Seborrheic Keratosis:
most common benign cutaneous lesion inherited tied family tendency rare before age 30 surge during times or hormone change looks "STUCK ON SKIN" brownish waxy appearance tx: cyrosurgery, curettage, biopsy
SIGN OF LESER TRELAT:
- ASSOCIATED WITH INTERNAL MALIGNANCY
- mostly GI adenocarcinomas.
- new onset, occur all over body.
nevi (moles)
- usually done growing moles by age 35.
- dysplastic nevi is a family pattern
- reasons for removal may be irritation, inflammation, infection, or bleeding…or your ABCDEs!!
Acrochordon (skin tags)
develop in middle to late adulthood. located on face, neck, intertriginous areas. Can become irritated. 1-2mm flesh colored pedunculated papule.
Hemangioma:
benign proliferation of vessels, not need to remove. most are gone (90%) by age 9.
