What is space tourism?
The practice of travelling into space for recreational purposes.
What is a city break?
A short leisure trip, typically lasting a few days, focused on exploring a specific city or town.
What is a National Park?
A large area of protected land designated by a national government for conservation purposes, often due to its natural beauty, wildlife, or cultural significance.
What are conflicts in the context of National Parks?
A disagreement or argument. In National Parks, the various users of the park experience conflicts with one another as each group wishes to use the park for their own purposes.
What is the Butler Model?
A model which describes the evolution of a tourist destination over time, including stages: Exploration, Involvement, Development, Consolidation, Stagnation, Decline / Regeneration.
Remember, ‘England Is Developing Cake Shops Daily / Regularly’.
What is pollution?
The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects. There are several types of pollution: Air, Water, Land / soil, Noise, Light, Thermal.
What is leakage in economics?
Funds leaving a system. Money leaves a country’s economy when people save it or when they spend money on imports.
What is the multiplier effect?
Money being spent multiple times within an economy. Tourism can bring money to an economy, helping to raise the quality of life and infrastructure as it is spent again and again within the local economy.
What is a tourist?
A person who travels and visits places for pleasure, business or interest. They stay for at least one night but less than a year.
What is the tourism industry?
The tourism industry provides services for tourists (hotels, flights, activities, etc). It creates jobs and incomes for millions of people around the world and is vital for many countries’ economies.
What is domestic tourism?
Where tourists visit places in their own country.
What is international tourism?
Where tourists visit other countries.
What are human attractions?
Human attractions are places of interest created or modified by people. These include museums, theme parks, historic sites and cities.
What are physical attractions?
Physical attractions are naturally occurring features of the environment. These may include climate, mountains, beaches, forests and wildlife.
What is mass tourism?
Occurs when large number of tourists visit the same place at the same time. Mass tourism locations are often built specifically to cater for tourists, e.g. Disney World in Florida or the Costa del Sol in Spain.
What is adventure tourism?
A type of tourism involving travel to remote or exotic locations in order to take part in physically challenging outdoor activities.
What is sustainable tourism?
Sustainable tourism is a way of traveling that considers the current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts of tourism, aiming to meet the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities. It prioritizes minimizing negative impacts and maximizing positive contributions to local communities, while ensuring the long-term health of the destination.
What is eco-tourism?
A form of sustainable tourism that focuses on visiting natural areas in a way that minimizes environmental impact and supports local communities while also educating visitors about the environment.
What is dark tourism?
Tourism that involves travelling to places associated with death and suffering.
What is cultural tourism?
A type of travel focused on exploring and experiencing the unique cultural elements of a destination, including history, art, architecture, traditions, and lifestyles.
What is wildlife tourism?
Travel focused on observing and interacting with wild animals and their natural habitats.
What is religious tourism?
Travel motivated by religious beliefs, involving visits to sacred sites, participation in religious events, or engagement in activities with religious significance. It includes pilgrimages, visits to holy places, and participation in religious festivals or retreats.
