A

1) evaluating for depression (assess for hopelessness)
2) explore ideation (frequency, duration, intensity)
3) assess for plans (past attempt/lethality and SLAP)
4) Assess for self-control (ideally in middle)
5) Assess intent (rate on scale)

A

Remove means, be empathetic, identify ambivalence, system of safety (put checks in place, remove medications etc.)

A

Stress-diathesis model (suicidal people have poor problem solving skills and under stress fail to create solutions)
Help learn methods to solving problems (attitude toward problem solving, how to generate alternative, difference between assumptions and fact, practice)

  • A “green card” referral system aids compliance
