What is SSNHL
A
Hearing loss over less than 72 hours unexplained by other causes e.g. ear wax, infection, fluid, perforated TM or ET dysfunction.

SSNHL presentation
A
Sudden hearing loss, most often unilateral

SSNHL causes
A
Most idiopathic but can be due to infection, ototoxic meds, MS, stroke, migraine

SSNHL differentials
A
Ear wax, infection, fluid, Perforated TM

SSNHL investigations
A
Audiometry - loss of at least 3 decibels in 3 consecutive frequencies.

SSNHL management
A
Immediate ENT referral within 24hrs. Idiopathic SSNHL can be treated with steroids under ENT guidance
