Q

how to analyse a graph on succession

A

succession occurs, large decrease as __ (whichever natural disaster) occurred, the pioneer species (lichens / moss) grows first then low growing plants next, increasing the number of plants, the seeds of pre existing species pants germinated

Q

how could further changes of an area lead to the development of a climax community

A

there will be taller plants, as the soil has become deeper, the taller plants outcompete the lower growing plants, they are the co-dominant species in the climax community

Q

describe how a part of an island may have appeared 5 years before a natural disaster

A

5 years before there are more algae / lichens / mosses as these are similar organisms, less organisms present as recently colonised area

Q

describe how a part of an island may have appeared 5 years after a natural disaster

Q

how do birds increase the number of species of plants

Q

comment on the changes in the abundance of three species over 200 years (on a graph)

A

Q

what happened to bare rock to allow growth of trees

Q

explain how lupin plants able to grow in the early stages of glacial retreat

A

the soil may lack nitrates at the early stages of glacial retreat, however lupine plants can use ammonium ions produced by the bacteria therefore they can synthesise amino acids
