Subluxation Flashcards
What muscles prevent subluxation?
Rotator cuff muscles: subscapularis infraspinatus supraspinatus teres minor
What happens in subluxation?
In a subluxation, the humeral head slips out of the glenoid cavity
What ligaments support it?
glenohumeral, coracohumeral, coracoacromial and the acromiohumeral ligaments.
Sling evidence
A Cochrane Review in 2009 concluded that there is insufficient evidence to conclude whether supportive devices are of benefit.
FES
In a Cochrane Review Functional Electrical Stimulation was found to bring about improvement in pain-free range of passive humeral lateral rotation and to reduce the severity of glenohumeral subluxation; however there was no significant effect on upper limb motor recovery.
Supraspinatus
Supraspinatus fossa
greater tubercle
Subscapularis
sub scapular fossa
lesser tubercle of the humerus
Infraspinatus
infraspinatus fossa
lesser tubercle of the humerus
Teres minor
Upper 2/3 of the lateral margin of the scapular
greater tubercle of the humerus
