What is subconjunctival haemorrhage?
A
Rupture of the small blood vessels within the conjunctiva, which releases blood into the space between the sclera and conjunctiva

What are the causes of subconjunctival haemorrhage?
A
- Strenuous activity, e.g. heavy lifting
- Trauma to the eye
- Hypertension
- Disorders/medications which cause bleeding
- ALWAYS suspect non-accidental injury in children

Describe the clinical features of sunconjuntival haemorrhage
A
- Patch of bright red blood underneath the conjunctiva
- Painless
- Does not affect vision

Describe the management of subconjunctival haemorrhage
A
Resolve spontaneously without any treatment in around 2 weeks
