What is herpes keratitis?
A
Inflammation of the cornea, caused by herpes simplex infection

How does herpes keratitis present?
A
Painful red eye

How is herpes keratitis diagnosed?
A
- Fluorescein staining will show a dendritic corneal ulcer
- Slit lamp examination to confirm diagnosis

Describe the management of suspected herpes keratitis
A
Urgent referral to ophthalmology (who will decide on treatment with antivirals e.g. aciclovir)
