What are the causes of subconjunctival haemorrhage?
A
- Trauma -> if present, must check for other trauma related injuries
- Spontaneous (may not be able to identify precipitating event)
- -> HTN
- -> Valsalva, constipation/straining/chronic cough, heavy lifting
- -> Anticoagulants, antiplatelet use
- -> Systemic bleeding disorder

what are the symptoms of subconjunctival haemorrhage?
A
sudden onset red eye, **painless, no ocular symptoms

what are the signs of subconjunctival haemorrhage>
A
patch of bright red haemorrhage (usually cannot see underlying sclera), usually sectorial w feathery border (well-demarcated anterior & posterior limits), superficial

what is the management of subconjunctival haemorrhage?
A
- Reassure pt - self-resolving in 2-3 weeks, no significant sequelae, no vision loss
- Treat underlying causes (e.g. HTN, bleeding disorder)
