What is a pterygium?

A

Triangular-shaped fibrovascular lesion over the perilimbal conjunctiva (nasal or temporal) and grows towards the cornea (often interpalpebral)

what are the symptoms of pterygium?

A
  • Redness, swelling, itch, irritation
  • Blurry vision BOV (if it obscures the centre of the cornea and obscures the pupil)
  • Astigmatism (due to pressure on the corneal surface resulting in irregularity)
  • Exotropia/esotropia (due to its pull on the eye)
