Sub Atomic Particles Flashcards
Proton
A small, positively charged particle of matter found in the atoms of all elements. (Atomic number)
What do protons consist of ?
2 up quarks and 1 down quark
Neutrons
Neutral charge and a mass slightly greater than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms.
What do neutrons consist of ?
1 up quark and 2 down quark
Electrons
a subatomic particle with a negative 1 elementary electric charge.
Nucleus
location of protons and neutrons, desne core of atom, and location of most of the atoms mass
Electron cloud
comprise most of the atoms volume, location of electrons, and mostly empty space
Mass number (A)
number of protons + neutrons (top number)
Atomic number (Z)
Number of protons=electrons
Sum of neutrons
Mass number - protons
