Sub-aerial process (Mass Movement) Flashcards
1
Q
What is a Mass Movement
A
Mass movement is (often) the sudden movement of loose material down a slope (cliff face) due to gravity
Depends on Hard consolidated rock such as sandstone or loose soil cliffs
2
Q
Consolidated Rock Mass Movements
A
Rock Fall, Loose fragments of rocks fall from the top of a cliff an can break into smaller pieces at the base of a cliff called scree
Landslides, Blocks of rocks become detached from the cliff an slide down toward the base and the sea front
3
Q
Unconsolidated Rock Mass Movements
A
Mudflows, Saturated soil turns into mud and rock flows slide down a cliff face, Occurs after heavy rainfall and on slanted cliff faces Rational Slip(Slump), Saturated soil and rock slides down a cliff face with rational (curved) movement
