1. Abd waist circumference >40 inches males, >35 inches female
2. TG >150
3. HDL <40 males, <50 females
4. Fasting glucose >100
5. BP >130/85

How to order procal

• should get initial procal and repeat 6-12 hours after, since initial normal may not be good enough to r/o bacterial infection
• levels rise over course of the infection
• not reliable in pregnancy, kidney disease, and immunocompromised
• not great in localized or chronic infection
• may be helpful to d/c abx for CAP at 48 hrs if 2 neg values and cx neg
• may be helpful to see response to therapy in sepsis and shorten duration
