Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
A persistent re-experiencing of a very stressful even. Anxiety symptoms and avoidance behavior are commonly present. There is a controversy within the medical community concerning the diagnosis of this illness.
Cognition
The mental activity or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses.
Malingering
The willful, deliberate, and fraudulent feigning or exaggeration of the symptoms of illness or injury done for the purpose of a consciously desire end.
Disability period
The time interval in which a person is unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a physical or mental impairment. The activity could be business employment, pursuing an education, or other duties.
How long after an accident can headaches persist?
Six months to one year
What are objective injuries?
Injuries that are supported by medical evidence
What are subjective injuries?
Injuries that are not supported by objective findings and are diagnosed by the claimant’s complaints
What do CAT assessments help determine?
How a claimant can reach the threshold of catastrophic impairment status by addressing the person’s whole person impairment
What is a disability period?
The time interval in which a person cannot engage in any substantial gainful activity because of mental or physical impairment
What is permanent total disability?
The claimant is permanently and totally incapable of performing any job functions.
What is reasonable accommodation?
When an employer is willing to modify the claimant’s duties and support them in the workplace
