Circulatory system
A system that permits blood to circulate and transport nutrients (such as amino acids and electrolytes), oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood cells to and from the cells in the body to provide nourishment and help in fighting disease.
Respiration
The exchange of oxygen and waste products (e.g., carbon dioxide) between the atmosphere and the cells of the body. It includes breathing, which brings oxygen into the lungs and carries away carbon dioxide.
Heart
A muscular organ which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system.
Diastole
The part of the cardiac cycle when the heart refills with blood following the systole cycle.
Systole
The part of the cardiac cycle when the ventricles contract.
Atria
The two upper chambers of the heart where the blood enters the heart.
Septum
The wall of tissue that separates the right and left atria of the heart.
Myocardial infraction
the death of the myocardium as a result of interruption of the blood supply to the area.
Diaphragm
The strong muscular partition between the thoracic cavity and the abdominal cavity.
Peritonitis
The inflammation of the peritoneum
Catheter
A slender, flexible tube made of rubber, mental, or plastic that removes or introduces fluids from or into the body.
