Studies + - Flashcards
Cross sectional STRENGTH
Reasonably cheap, and quick and easy as participants need to be tested once.
Participants are easily obtained.
Cross sectional LIMITATION
There is less detailed data collected than they are studies regarding individual participant differences
Data is collected from a snapshot of time
Longitudinal study STRENGTH
Same group of P,s is followed throughout the entire study.
Best way of spotting development trends as they repeat trends as they repeat tests.
Longitudinal study LIMITATION
Participants may choose to no longer be part of the study which disturbs the study.
If participants share a characteristic, findings are unbiased
Case study STRENGTH
They provide a detailed, qualitative look at an individual or small group.
Researchers can use a variety of data collections (observations, questionnaires etc)
Case study LIMITATION
Case studies are more susceptible to researcher bias.
There’s no control group so it’s harder to establish cause and effect.
