effective means for students to receive formative and summative feedback about performances (Malott et al., 2014)
Four perspectives on remediating for receptivity to feedback
- focus on systematic application of remediation and ascribing to due process
- increase student’s personal ability to self-reflect and increase self-awareness
- focus on limiting one’s clinical practice while preparing student for next clinical experience
- focus on those hesitant to programmatic interventions that limit/remove access (Salpietro et al., 2021)

focus on skills related to engaging and interacting with students both within and outside of classroom, skills related to course instruction, teacher’s role in gatekeeping, developing syllabus and course materials prior to beginning course as well as preparation for class sessions and focus on teacher evaluation (Swank & Houseknecht, 2019)

Ethical, legal and professional behavior related to self and professional behavior related to interactions with students, including treating students fairly (Swank & Houseknecht, 2019)

includes traits of the teacher, beliefs and values and interpersonal interactions with students and colleagues (Swank & Houseknecht, 2019)
Application-oriented learners
perceive it most helpful when teachers were practical, active leaders in the classroom, shared supportive feedback and presented material in a way where there was a direct connection with real-world application (West et al., 2021)
Intrinsically motivated learners
perceived it most helpful when teachers stimulated abstract and reflective thinking about content matter, provided direct feedback, and assumed a more facilitative role as an instructor (West et al., 2021)
Affective-oriented learners
perceived it most beneficial when they were inspired to learn through admiration of their instructor’s skills as a teacher and as a clinician and personality characteristics such as charisma, kindness and enthusiasm (West et al., 2021)
