Structures of the Human Body Flashcards
An ultimate mover that makes us enjoy and satisfied; the foundation of physical education.
Body
Distinguish certain physiological and personality traits
Body Types and Physique Classification
American psychologist; theory on associating physique with personality and delinquency.
William Sheldon
German psychiatrist; proposed different body types based on Sheldon’s classification.
Ernest Kretschmer
Kretschmer’s body types and physique classification
A. Asthenic (Thin, small, weak)
B. Athletic (muscular, large-boned)
C. Pyknic (stocky, fat)
Sheldon’s body types and physique classification
A. Ectomorph (lean, slim, shallow-chested; difficulty building muscles)
B. Mesomorph (muscular, broad, strong; good metabolism)
C. Endomorph (broad, round figure; high tendency to store body fat)
An arrangement of organs that are closely related to each other to do a particular job.
Body system
Made up of organs (collection of tissues with the same function) which in turn are made of cells (the basic structural unit of all living organisms).
System
Protects the organs; stores minerals that the body utilizes; provides structure and form for the muscles to work against.
Skeletal System
Types of bones
1. Long bones
2. Short bones
3. Flat bones
Types of bones
1. Humerus, ulna, radius, tibia, femur, fibula, metacarpals, phalanges
2. Carpal bones and tarsal bones
3. Skull, Sternum, ribs, scapulae
Protects the heart and lungs and is formed by the sternum and 12 pairs of ribs.
Thoracic Cage
Composed of the skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, and cardiac muscles; maintenance of posture; responsible for heat.
Muscular system
Types of muscles
1. Cardiac muscle (involuntary)
2. Smooth muscle (involuntary)
3. Skeletal muscle (voluntary)
Types of muscles
1. Forms the walls of the heart and contracts to circulate blood.
2. Found in the organs or organ system (e.g. digestive and respiratory system)
3. Attached to the skeleton and provide the skeleton the ability to move.
It is the largest or biggest muscle.
Gluteus Maximus
