Structures of the eye Flashcards
Blindspot
The location that the optic nerve innervates the retina
Ciliary body
These control the size and shape of the lens. Responsible for focusing the light.
Conjunctiva
Tissues layer that protects the sclera from debris, keeping the eye lubricated
Cornea
The transparent front portion of the eye, that covers the pupil and iris
Fovea
Small depression in the retina where the visual acuity is best
Iris
A small, circular muscle, that controls the diameter of the pupil
Lens
Focuses the light directly onto the retina
Optic nerve
The cranial nerve that transmits site to the brain
Pupil
The hole in the eye that allows light to enter
Retina
Tissue on the posterior eye that converts light to an electrochemical impulse
Sclera
White outer layer of the eye
Tendons of rectus muscles
These are the muscles responsible for moving the eyes
Vitreous humor
Clear, gelatin, substance that helps maintain the shape of the eye
