Structure of the heart Flashcards
What is the vein called where blood enters the heart?
Vena cava
What is the first chamber of the heart called?
Right atrium
What are the valves names that separate the atriums and ventricles?
Atrio ventricular valves
What is the second chamber of the heart called?
Right ventricle
What is the artery called that takes blood out of the heart?
Pulmonary artery
What is the thick structure that separates the two ventricles called?
Septum
What is the artery called where blood enters the heart?
Aorta
What is the third chamber of the heart called?
Left ventricle
What is the fourth chamber of the heart called?
Left atrium
What is the vein called that takes blood out of the heart?
Pulmonary vein
What type of blood travels to the heart?
Deoxygenated blood
What type of blood travels away from the heart?
Oxygenated blood
Where does deoxygenated blood go to?
The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
Where does oxygenated blood go to?
The oxygenated blood is brought back to the heart by the pulmonary veins.
What is unusual about the names of the chambers and why is it likes this?
The chambers are the opposite ways around, such as we look on the left hand side at the right atrium and right ventricle.
This is because the image of the heart is flipped so we have to use the opposite directions procedure.
