Cells Flashcards
What is a eukaryotic cell?
Found in multicellular cells and is very complex and does contain a nucleus.
What is a prokaryotic cell?
It is found in single cells and is not very complex as it doesn’t contain a nucleus.
What is the function of the mid-piece in the sperm cell?
It contains mitochondria which supplies the energy needed for movement.
What is the function of root hair in plant cells?
To transfer water and maximise the intake.
What is the function of the golgi apparatus?
To modify and package proteins.
What organelles are found in plant cells but not animal?
- Chloroplasts.
- Vacuole.
- Cell wall.
How does the ultrastructure of a bacterium capsule prevent dehydration?
It stops water from leaving the capsule.
It is also selectively permeable.
What’s the name of the type of ribosome found in bacteria?
70S
Eukaryotic-80S
What is the job of a ribosome?
To produce proteins.
What is the function of the plasmodesmata?
Enables transport and communication between plant cells.
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
To photosynthesise.
How are red blood cells adapted?
They have biconcaves for larger surface area and no nucleus for more room for haemoglobin.
What is the function of neutrophil?
Immune response.
How does the neutrophil cells help defend the body?
White blood cells.
Attack and destroy pathogens.
