Structural Drawing Interpretation; Pg 110-133 Flashcards
In Metric Thread Designations, what does “M” represent?
M 12 x 1.75
The “M” tells us the numbers and measurements are in metric.
In Metric Thread Designations, what does the first numbers represent?
M 12 x 1.75
The first numbers represent the major diameter.
In Metric Thread Designations, what do the last numbers represent?
M 12 x 1.75
The last numbers represent the pitch (in millimetres)
Describe an Engineering Drawing.
Engineering drawings are often referred to as design drawings designed for structural steel frame buildings. These drawings show comprehensive notes for the whole structure
It is an almost typical blueprint based on the steel framing of a building.
Where are shop drawings developed from?
From engineering drawings.
What are the three types of shop drawings?
Detail
Assembly
And Detail Assembly
“DADA”
Describe a shop drawing.
They are normally done in the fabricating shops.
They are also derived from the information in the framing plans, sections, and connection details.
What are some abbreviations for diameter?
D., DIA., and ⌀
What is the purpose of a revision block?
The triangle alerts the tradesperson that a change was made from the original design.
What does BOM stand for?
Bill Of Materials
Where is the BOM (Bill Of Materials) located?
The BOM is located above the title block in the upper right-hand corner.
In the Bill Of Materials, describe what the “Item Number,” or “Mark Number” is.
Because most of the time there is more than one material required to fabricate a project, each individual piece is required to be numbered or labelled to keep track of. This is an Item or Mark Number.
In the Bill Of Materials, describe what the “Quantity” is for.
Quantity is simply the number of pieces of a material is needed for a project.
In the Bill Of Materials, describe what the “Material Description” is for.
In the Material Description section, this is where information about the material is located. Such as type, width, length, and thickness.
For example; | PLATE 6 x 200 x 256 |
In the Bill Of Materials, describe what a “Remark” is for.
The Remarks column is for additional information not provided in the table. Such as how the material is meant to be bent, sheered, ground, or cut in the field.
