Basic Drafting Section 1; Pg 8-16 Flashcards
To remember
How many types of basic drawings are there in drafting? Name them.
Two. Pg 8
Orthographic Projection.
Pictorial.
Describe an “Orthographic Projection”
It represents a three-dimensional object in two dimensions. Pg 8
3D shape beside multiple 2D shapes
Uses the glass box method. Think of the work sheets where we had a 3D shape and tried to figure its 2d counterpart, or vise-versa.
What method is used to create an Orthographic Projection?
The “glass box” method is a way to describe how the various orthographic views are generated for an object. Pg 8
Describe a Pictorial Drawing.
Pictorial drawings are used to study the appearance of an object. Pg 8
Pictorials can be divided into two categories: True pictures (perspective drawings), and distorted pictures (isometric drawings).
What categories are Pictorial Drawings divided into. Describe their appearance.
Pictorials can be divided into two categories: Pg 8/9
True pictures (perspective drawings), think of a road that slowing gets smaller the further it appears.
Distorted pictures (isometric drawings). The centre point being the corner of the object.
What is the use of Alphabet lines?
Alphabet lines are used to read drawings. They are the lines with specific meanings to make blueprint reading easier.
What type of material is being used when SOLID INDIVIDUAL slanted lined are on the blue print?
_____________ (but slanted)
Cast iron, or General use.
What type of material is being used when SOLID and DASHED slanted lined are on the blue print?
_____________
—————— (but slanted)
_____________
Copper Alloys.
(eg. bronze or brass)
What type of material is being used when SOLID PAIRED slanted lined are on the blue print?
______________
______________
______________ (but slanted)
______________
Steel.
In blueprint reading, what is the name of a “heavy solid line”
___________________
Object line.
Describe the purpose of an object line.
_________________
A heavy solid line used to show visible edges in each view of the object.
In blueprint reading, what is the name of a “heavy short dashed line”
———————
Hidden line.
Describe the purpose of a hidden line.
————————
Hidden lines are used to illustrate edges and surfaces that are hidden behind the side of the object you are viewing.
In blueprint reading, what is the name of a “thin, solid line with and arrow on each end.”
←→ (it shouldn’t have any dashes in it)
Dimension line.
Describe the purpose of a dimension line.
←→ (it shouldn’t have any dashes in it)
Dimension lines are used to describe the thickness/ length of a part of the object.
