Before determining whether it is a stroke or TIA what would be the first action?

Loading dose of aspirin 300mg

What would be the treatment for an ischaemic stroke?
A
Immediate treatment with alteplase IV - needs to be given as soon as possible - preferably within 90 mins of onset but if over 4.5 hours risk outweighs benefits

What is the newer (invasive) therapy available for clots in large vessels of the brain?
A
Thrombectomy - similar to PI in MI - Catheter is sent up through the groin and through circ to the brain where clot is pulled out. Very safe but specific skill = depends if surgeon in hospital can do it.
