Platelet aggregation inhibitors Flashcards
How does clopidogrel aid in inhibiting platelet aggregation?
It blocks the receptor that allow ADP to enter the cell
How does aspirin aid in inhibiting platelet aggregation?
It inhibits COX-1 and 2 = stops the formatinon of thromboxane A2.
How does dipyridamole inhibit platelet aggregation?
Inhibits the breakdown of cyclin AMP (which reduces thromboxane A2 activity)
Why are ADP, thromboxane A2 and cyclic AMP important in inhibiting platelet aggregation?
They are all important in the activation of the g-protein iib/iiia receptor. By blocking these factors we are preventing the formatinon of the dimer (receptor) that is fundamental in platelet aggregation.
What is the aim by preventing platelet aggregation?
Prevent thrombus formation
In what type of thrombosis are anti-platelet drugs like aspirin and clopidogrel used?
Arterial thrombosis - used in the treatment of NSTEMI
