Total Anterior Circulation Syndrome
Due to carotid or middle cerebral artery
Complete hemiparesis/numbness
Loss of vision of one side - hemianopia
Loss of awareness of non-dominant side
Dysphasia involvement
60% mortality in a year
Partial Anterior Circulation Syndrome (PACS)
Branch of main artery
LACS and TACS
2/3 TACS criteria
- one of inattention or dysphasia
- monoparesis
Lacunar Syndrome
Small ‘‘perforating’’ artery
Movement and sensations pathways
Weakness and numbness of:
- face + arm + leg
- face + arm
- Arm + leg
May have dysarthria
Ataxia hemiparesis
No affect on higher function like dysaphasia, inattention or hemianopia
Posterior Circulation Syndrome (POCS)
Combination of symptoms - linked to cerebella
Think balance/coordination
Vertigo
Double vision
Dysarthria
Visual loss
