What are the 2 types of risk factors
- Modifiable risk factors - smoking, alcohol, diet
- Non-modifiable risk factors - gender, age, family history
Why is it important to be aware of medical and social history
- Some may increase risk
- Be aware of factors that man contribute to dental disease
How can physical capabilities be a boundary to oral health
- Gross and fine movement
- May need physical assistance
- May need dental aid
What must a treatment plan reflect
- Treatment must be identified
- Patient expectation must be identified
- If plan doesn’t meet expectation, patient will be less trusting in the dentist
What are the 3 risk ranks
Red risk - Red clinical factor
Amber risk - Amber clinical factor or if co-existing patient risk factor which increases risk
Green risk - Green clinical factors and no patient factors increasing risk
What influences a patient
- Function
- Appearance
- Peers
- Being pain-free
- Fashion trend
What are the steps to good treatment
- Treatment Plan - Explain treatment
- Setting goals - Do not overload
- Monitor - Monitor the progress of the patient’s goals
- Evaluate - Measure the outcome of the treatment
