Q

Strapping technique for left ankle sprain

A

Figure 6 :
Apply a stirrup from the inside of the leg at the anchor strips, downward over the medial anklebone,
under the heel, and upward over the lateral anklebone.
Pull the ankle outward with the tape to help minimize the inversion ankle sprain mechanism that tends to cause this injury

Q

Goals/aims of strapping

A

Prevent injury
Restrict motion
Compress to control swelling
Secure dressing
Protect injured part from re-injury
Protect injured part while healing
Stabilise and support anatomical structure
Means for prophylaxis
As a first aid tool
Facilitate normal movement, muscle action or postural patterns

Q

Caution areas while applying strapping

A

The base of the 5th metatarsal
restriction of midfoot movement

The arch of the foot
increasing tension with application of the tape,

Plantar fasciitis
irritation with removal of the tape and changing the biomechanics of the mid and fore foot

Calcaneus
- irritation and blisters
