Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
A read/write head moves back and forth as the disk spins to locate or add new data.
Advantages
- Large Storage Capacity
- Cheaper per Megabyte/ Gigabyte
- Stored items remain when computer is off
Disadvantages
- Moving parts and disks are easily broken
- Can be affected by dirt/dust
- Being replaced by superior SSDs
Blu-ray (High definition storage media)
Blu-ray is an optical disc and uses blue lasers which burn small pits into the surface which can then be read as data.
Advantages
- Larger capacity than DVDs
- Better picture and sound quality
- Fast for the storage and retrieval of data
Disadvantages
- Requires a dedicated player
- More expensive than DVDs
- Easily scratchable, broken or damaged
