Network topologies Flashcards
1
Q
Bus topology definition
A
In a bus topology each node is connected directly to the main communication line. Data travels along the line in both directions. Terminators at each end stop the signal.
2
Q
Advantages and disadvantages of Bus topology
A
+ Cost effective
- Network is dependent on the bus cable
- Larger the traffic the less efficient the network is
3
Q
Star Topology definition
A
In a star network all nodes are connected to the file server by its own cable.
4
Q
Advantages and disadvantages of Star topology
A
+ If one computer breaks the rest will not be affected
- More expensive due to more cabling
5
Q
Ring Topology definition
A
Each computer is connected directly to the other forming a ring and the data travels in one direction.
6
Q
Advantages and disadvantages of Ring topology
A
+ No data collision
+ Computers can be added easily
- If a computer breaks down the network is disrupted
- If the cable breaks the network is disrupted
