What’s nonulcer dyspepsia?

A

when all causes of abdominal pain are excluded and there is still pain then the diagnosis is functional or no ulcer dyspepsia

cause: is unknown
diagnosis: of exclusion

💊 : no specific ttt but Anatacids of various types as H2 blocker, liquid antacids, PPI can be tried and if PPI is not effective you can try H pylori ttt by adding clarithromycin & amoxicillin

A

long term DM is the most common cause, also electrolytes problems like magnesium, potassium, calcium can cause it

What’s the Clinical picture of Gastroparesis?

A
  1. early satiety
  2. Sense of fullness ( because decreased motility which cause delaying emptying)
  3. nausea after eating
  4. Abd. pain
  5. bloating

How to diagnose and treat Gastroparesis?

A

def; weak stomach

causes: long term DM is the most common cause, also electrolytes problems like magnesium, potassium, calcium can cause it

Diagnosis;

Usually From history if the ptn is long term diabetic with with poor glycemic control and has nephropathy, neuropathy, and retinopathy and other DM complications.

do endoscopy to exclude other causes. Also radioisotope labeled food can be done or given to measure gastric emptying but it’s rarely necessary. Endoscopy is enough

give erythromycin to increase motility , also metoclopramide can be given
