Ask patient to open mouth to locate condyloid process. When mouth closes it will fall in depression were this point is located.

Carotid Artery

What must we palpate for before needling?
Palpate for carotid artery.
Hold the artery laterally with one finger to enlarge the space between lateral border of the thyroid cartilage and artery.
Needle into the space.
Reminder: ST 9 is level with the laryngeal prominance, anterior to SCM
