trichomoniasis (vaginal discharge)

What is the STI?
white/yellow/green discharge, inflammation of testes and cervix, in eyes/rectum/throat/genital tract
gonorrhoea
give an example of a cervical infection:
chlamydia trachomatis
What is given to treat chlamydia?
azithromycin, doxycycline, erythromycin
what is given to treat gonorrhoea?
cetriaxone, cefixime(this has resistance so 1st used more) (BOTH WITH AZITHROMYCIN)
what is the treatment given for non gonococcal urethritis?
same as chlamydia as this is usually what causes it
what is bacterial vaginosis usually caused by?
over cleaning - removal of normal vaginal microflora
what are symptoms of bacterial vaginosis (although most are asymptomatic)?
fishy smell, grey/white discharge
no pain/soreness/itching
what is trichomoniasis treated with?
metronidazole (treatment failure is common)
What is used to treat genital herpes?
aciclovir, oral or topical
What does HPV stand for?
human papilloma virus
what are symptoms of ant-genital warts?
cauliflower like lumps (caused by HPV)
how often is a HPV vaccine given?
2 doses given a year apart - to girls age 11-14
