Neisseria Gonorrhoea infects and causes what?
Infects mucosal surfaces. Causes urethritis in men and endocervicitis in women.
What does NG amplify?
HIV.
Confrim diagnosis of NG how?
NAA tests on urine, material obtained from sampling is gram stained and cultured on enriched media. Often requires urethral swabs in males and speculum examination in women.
NG is resistant to what?
Penicillin, tetracycline and fluoroquines is a major public health problem.
Treated with what?
Ceftriaxon 250mgs or ciproflaxin 500mgs.
Chlamydia Trachomatis - adapted to exist as what?
Obligate intracellular parasite of eukaryotic cells.
What are the 3 serotypes?
- L1,L2,L3 - LGV, cervicitis, prostitis.
- A,B,Ba,C - Ocular Trachoma
- D-K - Oculogenital disease.
What can CT cause?
Trachoma, Inclusion conjuctivitis, LGV, urethritis, epididymitis/cervicitis, PID.

CT is treated with what?
Doxycycline, 100mgs. Azithromycin 1g stat. Erythromycin 500mgs q.d.s for 7 days.
PID is treated with what?
Doxycycline 100mgs for 14 days with metronizadole 400mgs b.d for 5 days and ceftriaxone 250mg b.d.
Treponema Pallidum A.K.A?
Syphillis.
Diagnosed how?
DFM, Serology and patient with suspected neurosyphillis should have lumbar puncture and CSF exam.
