How is Treponema pallidum treated?

A

Early: procaine penicillin - 10 days.
Late: Doxycycline - 28 days. Procaine penicillin 17 days.
Neurosyphillis: Procaine penicillin 17 days and benzylpenicillin 17 days.

Describe he 3 classifications of syphilis.

A

Primary - ulcer and regional lymphadenopathy, incubation 9-90 days.
Secondary - multisystem involvement, appear within 8 weeks of infection. Skin Lesions most common. Anterior uveitis, meningitis, CN palsies and glomerulonephritis.
Tertiary - 30% untreated individuals develop symptomatic late syphilis - neurosyphilis, cardiovascular and gummatous.
