- Often asymptomatic
- Fever

How are STI’s diagnosed?
A
Vaginal or penile urethral swabs
Urine sample (has to be 1st urine passed)
Examination of genitals
1) Nucleic acid amplification tests
2) Enzyme immunoassays for chlamydia

What is the treatment and follow up for STI’s?
A
Chlamydia - Azithromycin or doxycycline
Syphilis - Azithromycin or doxycycline
Gonorrhoea - Azithromycin or ceftriaxone
Trichomoniasis - Metronidazole

- Death
- Psychological distress
