What are the bones of the pelvis and their relationship to each other?
1 - Hip bones (Ilium, pubis & ischium)
2 - Sacrum
3 - Cocyx
What are the muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor?
Muscles:
1 - Levator Ani muscles (puborectalis, pubococcygeus, iliococcygeus)
2 - Coccygeus
3 - Fascia coverings of the muscles above
Ligaments:
1 - Sacrotuberous ligament
2 - Sacrospinous ligament
What are the male reproductive organs?
Penis - sexual function and micturition
Testes & epididymis - production and storage of sperm
Scrotum - contains testes
Spermatic cord & Vas Deferens - Transports sperm into ejaculatory ducts prior to ejaculation and contains arteries and nerves
Prostate gland - releases proteolytic enzymes into semen to prevent it from clotting
Bulbourethral glands - produce lubricating fluid that is added to semen
Seminal vesicles - produce some of the components of semen
What are the accessory glands of the male reproductive system?
Seminal vesicles - secrete semen
Prostate gland - secretes around 30% of fluid that makes up semen
Bulbourethral glands - secretes fluids that help lubricate the urethra and neutralize acidic urine
