Reason for Anemia: Physiologic

A

Pregnant bodies adapt to meet the increase in oxygen demand for the fetus and placenta, but the RBC increaase lags behind the plasma increase
* 50% expansion in maternal blood volume
* 15-25% expansion in maternal RBC mass
* Hemodilution highest during 2nd trimester
Increased in iron need
