He created Mass movement which went against the apartheid idea of divide and rule
He encouraged:
- blacks to stand against apartheid
- strike action and gave workers a sense if their own power
- disinvestment
He helped build black solidarity
Black consciousness
- ‘Black’ included any of the oppressed
- Was a philosophy, and attitude and way of life
- It aimed to conscientise black South Africans and instill in them the sense of self-worth and dignity, which apartheid has systematically destroyed.
- Encourage black self-reliance - economic reliance and self-reliance in black expel achieving their own liberation
- Created pride in black african heritage and culture
