Q

What is the purpose of step 6 ARRANGE?

A

PROVIDE CONTINUING SUPPORT:
- Conclude the initial meeting with the client by agreeing to a follow-up plan. Clients will likely require ongoing motivational and technical support as they strive to implement their physical activity, fitness, and/or lifestyle action plan. Encourage clients to keep track of their efforts and to return at a mutually agreed time to discuss their progress and identify adjustments to address issues or progress.

Q

Why is keeping track of physical activity an effective way to promote adherence? Example?

A
  1. it holds clients accountable to themselves for following through on the plans they have set.
  2. Keeping track of how often, how long, and how far they walked (along with heart rate measures) or their resistance training efforts (exercises, weights, repetitions, sets, RPE) will help them monitor their own progress and motivate them to set and work toward new goals.

Q

What is the weekly physical activity planner intended for?

A

The Weekly Physical Activity Planner and Log is intended to help clients plan and keep track of their physical activity, and to facilitate review with the trainer each week (or as frequently as agreed between the trainer and client). Keeping track of physical activity is an effective way to promote adherence in that it holds clients accountable to themselves for following through on the plans they have set.

Q

What should we look for when examining someone’s relapse likelihood? Provide and example with a solution.

A

Explore their past experiences with relapse. They will often know what situations have been problems before and what has worked to get them back on track. Discuss whether they feel they have certain high-risk situations that may prevent them from sticking with their plan.

For example, Puneet walks after work. The high-risk situation is when it gets dark in the winter.

The solution is to join up with a friend Myrna to walk together, keeping one another company and enhancing safety.
